What do you get when you add a world class drag racing facility, a generous helping of the best sports compact racers from Puerto Rico, Japan, New Zealand and Australia with a dash of sunshine and topped off with a splash of bikini clad babes!!! Well my friends, you get the 2017 Honeywell Garrett Brisbane Jamboree. Returning bigger and better than ever to its original two day format the 2017 installment was one for the history books.

In motorsport there are few equalizers like the 1320ft of concrete that make up a drag strip. This means that teams from all over the globe are constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, while remaining relevant to a world wide audience. So when the brains trust behind jamboree announced that they were bringing team Puerto Rico as well as the return of team Japan with a second car and team NZ with the Curran Bros Rx2 to Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway we knew just how big this event would be.

With the cars and teams hitting the track in the week leading up to the event it didn’t take long to fire the first shots. With El Humilde, driven by Jorge Juarbe, reeling off a great 6.08 straight out of the container. This was considered a big deal, since the car had experienced a minor rollover just a week before being loaded for Australia, and had not turned a wheel in anger since the rebuild! The car then ran a 5-second pass later and a PB of 5.94sec in the evening on Friday to show that this little car was not here to make up the numbers.

Something something bikini something….

Remember the car you owned when you were on your green P’s… Bet it wasn’t this cool. Street driven, wheel standing, 8.8 second 150mph, 13b powered Rx3. Simply awesome.

With a huge list of over 220 entrants there were bumper fields in all classes but Factory Extreme was one field with record numbers. 14 cars took to the track with 3 of the cars in the magical 5 second zone it threw the bracket wide open. With a mixture of 2J’s, 20B’s, VQ35’s, 4L Barras and a compound turbo 4G63 4cyl there is many ways to go about this category.

With all the action on track its easy to forget about everything else going on around the complex. With the guys from Australian Drifting Grand Prix putting on a great display over at the figure 8 track, shredding tyres all weekend. As well as a huge show and shine with a massive mix of old and new school compact cars filling the grounds around the pits that included the sound off and traders alley filled with the who’s who of the performance industry. But the place to be was the stage area, while the babes occupy the stage strutting their stuff in the Wicked Weasel bikini comp.

Subtlety is not his strong point…

With record passes, PB’s and some of the best racing we have seen at a jamboree in recent memory, the momentum now moves to Melbourne’s Calder Park raceway on the 28th of October. With all the hi-tech glitz and glamour condensed into one huge day of  action. For more information about anything Jamboree check out their website here : http://www.jamboree.com.au/
