Queens Long weekend saw myself and Trav out at Sea Lake in North Western Country Victoria, for the upcoming round of the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship. With approx 100 entries confirmed for the event, it was going to be a great event for all competitors screaming around the Salt Lake of Lake Tyrell. Bring it on! With rain coming down just before the event, did I mention lots of mud?
Seeing the Town put out a massive Welcome on the Fri night was great to see such a turnout, there was scrutineering and off road cars everywhere you looked. There were stalls and rides for the kids, plenty of food on offer and campfires and great hospitality, even fireworks for the night! It was a great atmosphere! after such a great night it had everyone ready for the Prologue on the Saturday.
Saturday and prologue day awaits. This will settle the top ten shoot out for the main race on the Sunday, so there was plenty on the line considering the wet course conditions. With no Recce on the Sunday as the course was deemed too wet and to preserve the course, it was even more of a reason to get a good position for the Sunday. So with the Muddy Prologue and top 10 shoot fought for on the short 11km course, it was Glenn Owen/Matt Ryan with a time of 00:04:29.781 for the shootout to claim top spot. In 2nd with a time of 00:04:40.996, it was Andy Brown/Mark Sedran. 3rd went to Dale Martin/Adrian Rowe with a 00:04:44.091. 4 1/2 odd minutes to drive around an 11km course with jumps and bumps and mud etc. Let that sink in for a sec.
With the weather drying out the Sunday. Crews were treated to a beautiful Sunrise for Sunday Morning, everyone was at the track early for the days big race. It was going to be a great day indeed. The day itself was full of dramas with alot of the field dropping like flies, so it was a matter of survival and driving flat out. With Glen Owen/Matt Ryan leading 99 percent of the race, with half a lap to go the car cried enough and halted to the side of the track, In so handing the lead to local Cameron McClelland for the victory in his hometown race for his first ever victory on his home event. After trying for 22 years Cameron was ecstatic with this win. 2nd place was Tom Robinson and Brad Chasemore in 3rd in what was a great event right till the wire. Shoutout to all the Volunteers and Officials that made the event for what it is and made everyone feel welcome, you held a cracker of an event. Well done! Enjoy the pics below.
