Winton Victoria about 2hrs North of Melbourne, has us here at Winton for round 5 of the Carsales TCR Australia series. From Sunny Queensland down to a Sunny Melbourne  had beautiful weather for everyone to enjoy the event. With action aplenty in this series and  growing in popularity. These cars are great to see in action !!

Saturdays qualifying saw Hyundai driver Will Brown take Pole position for race one in a Hyundai i30N, ahead of Andre Heimgartner in a Holden Astra. Third place taken by John Martin in a Honda Civic Type R. Three different cars in the first three spots! How cool is that!

Wnners are grinners, and that’s exactly how it was for Volkswagen Golf driver Jason Bright. Having won the inaugural round at Sydney Motorsport Park back in May, having battling car problems since then only to find a major flaw in the Golf leading up to Winton and now on top if it. It was all smiles.

Managing to stay out of trouble from other drivers arguing on track, Bright was able to take the win ahead of  Will Browns Hyundai i30N and Dylan Okeefe in third in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta at the end of the 16 lap race.

“Hopefully we can have a good run from here for the rest of the championship.”

It wasn’t a race that Renault wanted to remember, both cars of James Moffat and Chris Pither suffering problems on the warm up lap and had to retire.

After race 1, stewards had issued out some penalties which had changed a few things around. Tony D’Alberto was issued a 5 second penalty for an incident with Nathan Morcom, which moved D’Alberto down to sixth from fourth. Alexandra Whitley received a 30 second penalty for an incident with Leanne Tander, which saw the Golf driver demoted to thirteenth from twelfth. Alfa Romeo driver Jordan Cox was also the recipient of a 10 second penalty for a lap 1 incident with John Martin.

In race 2 it was Will Brown in his Hyundai i30N taking the win, as he literally blasted off in the distance and left everyone in his wake, no one able to keep up with him. Jason Bright taking second in his VW Golf and Aaron Cameron in another Golf taking the last spot on the podium.

Luck wasn’t on Molly Taylors side, breaking a drive shaft in her Subaru Impreza leaving the car limping.

Will Brown was a happy camper with again taking race three. Giving him 2 race wins on the Sunday. After such a great outing Will now sees himself at the top of the championship points table. Aaron Cameron in his Volkswagen Golf Gti managed to take second, while racing legend Russell Ingall climbed his way back through the field to finish an impressive third! Jason Bright having stalled at the start of race three. Left him coming home in twelfth.

I got a good jump and then it just stalled.  I hit every wrong button – the wipers, the pitlane speed limiter, the radio – while I was trying to re-start,” said Bright.

With Will Brown sitting on top of table points wise, his aim is to now finish with more wins to hopefully take him to the championship outright.
