A new concept in rallying was launched in Sydney over the last two summers with the staging of a six round Twilight Tarmac RallySprint Series run over a challenging tarmac course at the Sydney International Dragway on Thursday nights from October to March, which now is onto its second series after a successful first series was popular with drivers & spectators.
The Twilight Tarmac RallySprint series has seen crews battling it out over a 3.5 km stage across various tarmac roads within the SID complex at Eastern Creek on Thursday nights during daylight savings.
The Twilight Tarmac RallySprint Series has being organised by North Shore Sporting Car Club and has offered both traditional gravel rally exponents, tarmac rallyists and novices new to the sport the chance to have a fun night battling the clock as the sun sets.
With a total of 10 Rounds held over the last two summers, in varied weather conditions & a massive amount of different cars competing. Where else would you get a WRC Toyota Corolla up against a club level Datsun 1600, Or a World Time Attack car up against a Drift car Toyota Soarer, and finally an Offroad trophy truck up against a road going Ford Focus.
The great thing about these event is it doesn’t matter how much rallying experience you have, as you can have fun and drive to your skill level, Or go all out to see where you could stack up against some of Australia’s best rally drivers.
There has been a great selection of older cars that have turned up during the rounds. From your Escorts, Datsuns, BMWs, Commodores, RX Series Mazdas & Minis.
A great mix of modern cars have continued to show up, with a mix of car preparation.
The series has had a great mix of full prepared cars, which run either on the Dirt or Tarmac based events.
An Ex-Mini Challenge race car which does look rather mean in rally trim.

Next two cars were built off the same base car with two extremely different builds. One for speed across rough forests roads and one for speed on smooth race tracks.
Neil Bates Motorsport have been running a development Toyota 86 ahead of the launch of the track series later in the year.
The final two rounds of the Second Series of the Twilight Tarmac RallySprint, will be held on February 18th & March 17th.
