Jamboree Sydney is already one of the biggest and best events on the east coast of Australia. 2015’s show turned everything up another notch with one of the highest number of entrants and a multitude of record smashing runs!stumbling and one of the highest number of entrants ever we were set for one of the best events of 2015.
Personally, I think Jamboree’s success lies in the relatability of the cars competing with the younger generation. In Pro Series drag racing Older muscle car body shapes reign supreme and the sport is very traditional with many of the ANDRA brackets not as accommodating as the NHRA. But with events like jamboree and APSA giving these racers not only track time but recognition, there’s no wonder the popularity continues to rise.Something you couldn’t help but notice was the return of Queen St racing. What can i say… These guys put on the show, If the gold plated 20b E46 BMW competing in extreme or the equally as gold plated RB powered Ex Shane Tucker Pro stock Monaro in Factory extreme weren’t enough, they might be one of the only drag teams in the world to tow into the lanes with a Rolls Royce Phantom. As well as multiple other Rolls Royces and their insane Liberty Walk GTR and Liberty Walk Lamborghini Murcielago filling their pit bays! They certainly know how to get noticed. One of the biggest shifts in the scene come from the off track entertainment. The show and shine has almost done a 360. Gone is the sex spec candy paint and deep dish wheels. Patina now is everywhere and one of the weirdest was the 77 mitsubishi galant with a 3.8l holden engine swap. One of the highlights of the event was Dom in his Pac performance GODRX2 running a new PB. Dom is normally known for his bumper smashing wheelstands but this weekend was dedicated solely to landing that 8 second timeslip.Chris Tait was one of a few racers debuting a new livery at this event. His S14.5 made it to the finals in Pro Compact and had some issues with the liberty gearbox and took runner up for the event. If all the on track action, show and shine, babe comp and trade stands weren’t enough, Motive DVD and Just cars had a custom made drift track to destroy rubber on hourly during the day. With fans being able to get within a few meters of some of Australias best drifters and having the runs filmed for a Drifters Unleashed DVD the drivers weren’t holding back! Cars were running door to door in every session! Keep your eyes peeled as Speed Nation will be bringing you coverage from the final round of the ADGP season at Sydney Motorsport Park in the coming weeks.
Jamboree returns home to Queenslands Willowbank raceway on the 29th of August. This is a event that has really hit its stride since returning to a one day event. If you have never been to Jamboree seriously do yourself a favour. With world and national record holding cars in nearly every bracket this event really has to be witnessed to be appreciated.
