The 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship marked off it’s first day of school with the pre-season test day at Sydney Motorsport Park. 2018 will be a highly anticipated season, with a new car model, with Holden debuting the new ZB Commodore Supercar, 5 new drivers coming up from the Super2 series, 1 brand new track at Tailem Bend in Adelaide, 2 new teams and a handful of drivers who have new home teams for the season. The 1 day test gave teams a chance to give their cars a good shakedown. For the Ford and Nissan teams it gave them a chance to see how any upgrades they have worked on over the off season have improved their cars. For the Holden teams it was a case of seeing how the new ZB model would perform and how it would react to different setup changes, with the biggest change with the new model being that the Holden Commodores have gone from a sedan shape which it has had since the inception of the Commodore, to a hatch body shape. 888 Engineering were given the task of designing and building the new ZB model. With the season opener, the Adelaide 500, in just over a weeks time, the teams will be working away madly with all the data they got from the test to make any minor or drastic changes to their cars for when the cars hit the track come Friday morning.
