On the 5th of November Ipswich’s Queensland raceway was overcome with all things BARP!!. This isn’t a new concept with events being run both here in QLD and at Sydney Motorsport Park with token rotor head and former Powercruise employee Gareth Ball masterminding the event creating this unique event to give fellow rotary enthusiasts here in QLD the 3.1km national circuit to settle the score 12a vs 13b vs 20b.
The day consists of cruising sessions, staged racing and a show and shine. This format seems to work really well with everything from tame street cars to rally cars and even Mazfix’s insane 6sec factory extreme Mazda 6 in attendance. One of the standouts from the last event was this insane street driven veliside rx7.
The rotary engine punches far beyond its weight being a great engine swap alternative for the sports compact scene. With most Datsun and Corolla owners heading away from the traditional piston engine to the smaller displacement higher output rotary equivalent.
Now that it has been established on the east coast Gareth and his team are now looking at more venues around Australia to host a Rotary revival event. Keep your eyes peeled on the Rotary Revival website and facebook pages for more upcoming events.
