Symmons Plains raceway is Tasmania’s premier motorsport facility located just a short drive down the Midland highway from Launceston. For most of the year the track lays dormant but on the 27th of January the juggernaut that is powercruise awakes the sleepy farmland that surrounds the track, With blower whine and turbo whistle that could be heard from the mainland. Given that not much automotive news comes out of Tasmania you are probably thinking how tough can these cars be?
One thing Tasmania has is a huge jdm contingent, And the scene is almost comparable to New Zealand. With a lot of rotary engine swaps including this tough looking Ke70 Corolla and RX3 were both cars that stood out and made their presence felt at this years event
Like anywhere in Australia the powerskids is always a crowd favorite. And Tasmania shows us some of the toughest skids of anywhere in Aus! This SS was not shy. Laying down a massive powerskid and backing it up by smashing the tyres on the burnout pad as the sun set.
With a killer crowd and unique turnout of cars this event is unlike any other Powercruise in Australia and the track makes for great viewing making it one of the best to attend. All information about past and future Powercruise events can be found on their website: http://www.powercruise.com/
