Speed Nation takes a trip through Melbourne’s Motorclassica 2017 – The Aust Int’l Concours d’Elegance & Classic Motor Show.
Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building for another year hosted Motorclassica 2017. The exquisite classic car show displays and auctions off some of the most pristine classic vehicles available in the market. Rarely seen iconic cars often make an appearance at concours events. This year it was Ferrari and Holden’s turn. Holden showed off much of their spectacular collection of original and concept vehicles as a goodbye tribute to the end of their local manufacturing arm. And Ferrari, well, they had something very special to show off. . .
In celebration of Ferrari’s 70th anniversary one particular car took centre stage; the astounding $12 million LaFerrari. Seeing the dream in flesh tugged at many people’s heartstrings. I’ve been told that occasionally the crowd were treated to a brief opportunity to listen to the LaFerrari’s sweet symphony exhaust note. Of course the Lamborghini’s were not far away..
There were hundreds of quality new, old and restored vehicles on display.
This particular photo below features a significant portion of the vintage and collectible Holden vehicles, these truly drew the crowds with collectors extremely interested in the display.
In addition to their famous concept vehicles, Holden displayed their collection of original generational cars. We all know someone who would find this VN Commodore the most amazing vehicle on show!
Throughout Motorclassica 2017, Attention to detail was perfect.
Motorclassica celebrated Lancia’s rally heritage by presenting a collection of rare models in their original rally livery.
Gulf Oil Australia have chosen quite an epic Porsche show car to represent their brand. More companies need to invest in classics!
Showcased outdoors, Lorbek once again presented their usual variety of exotic vehicles and classics – always awesome.
An exciting collection of Nissan Skylines were on display, check out this immaculate R32 GTR!
This 65′ E-Type Jaguar has a value of almost $400,000.
The Mossgreen Auctions had a range of vehicles on auction, some of which were estimated to sell for up to $8 million!
A personal favourite of mine going under the hammer was this Subaru Impreza Version 5 WRX STI has only 7000 kms on the clock – Immaculate! Estimated value at $65,000! The same owner also had an original WRX with only 20,000kms on the clock estimated to sell around $21,000, which you can also see below in the gallery.
That was just a brief selection of vehicles from Motorclassica, the engaging part of the event is the atmosphere. Its uniquely different to many car shows – with VIP catering, non-traditional exhibitors from industries including travel, art and wine. For those bold enough to risk paying insurance excess (if you crash) they are welcome to test drive a variety of Mercedes vehicles available at the show – and yes, the fun ones are most certainly available.
Until next year at Motorclassica! If you’d like to see our coverage of last years event click here.
