With the show and shine taken care of, Day 2 sees a huge contingent of boy racers head for MereMere Dragway, an hour south of Auckland. One of the great things with New Zealand is the huge street car scene. With Jamboree, the equivalent event in Australia, we have mostly pro drag cars broken down into brackets. But NZ is the reverse with mostly tough as street cars and the main show being the pro cars from Australia mixing it up with the best of NZ’s pro scene.
Given how close geographically Australia and New Zealand’s car scenes are its amazing how differently they modify cars. In my opinion they win gold in the creativity stakes with rotary engine conversions being dished out like hot dinners. During my visit I saw a standard looking VY Commodore with a 13b pp conversion… Why you ask.. Why not i say… Its this lack of boundary’s to conform to what the internet churns out, that makes NZ one of my favourite places to travel.
With the racing going down on track. In the background was one of our favorite events… the babe comp. We took extra pics to make sure we had it covered… haha!
If you haven’t made it across the ditch for the 4 N Rotor Nats yet, do yourself a favour and get over there. If you love everything turbo and rotor you will be spending 2 days in heaven. Given the huge amount of friendly rivalries we have with our kiwi counterparts. Sports compact drag racing is one of the newest categories, but is one of the most fiercely fought out.
